Puerto Rico, My Lovely Island, Part 2

While here I have passed along a few of my business cards.  I noticed that someone sneered and commented on the mango part of my blog name.

I wish to clarify that the plural of mango is mangos and the way I spell it, “mangoes” is also correct to all you out there that think I made an error in spelling…

Now that this is clarified…I wish to show you more of my adventures on this beautiful Island.

Adriana, is a blogger who lives in Puerto Rico.  Her blog, GreatFood360°.  When I wrote telling her that I would be visiting Puerto Rico to visit my friend and would be joined at the end of the month by Joan of FOODalogue, she immediately accepted an invitation to meet with us and has been very helpful in turning me on to things that are happening on the island.  Please take time out to visit her blog, you won’t regret it.  More to come on the reunion next week as we will be meeting on the 24th.

Because of the tropical storm that turned into hurricane Irene, the above was cancelled.  Three days without power, running to the hotels to charge the phones and hang out in the air conditioning was my only option.

I spent my birthday removing all the meats from my friends freezer, preparing them with very little available and creating a pretty darn good BBQ.

I had at hand:  fresh basil and parsley, salt and pepper, bottled italian salad dressing, A-1 steak sauce, a few limes, one onion, one green pepper, garlic, three tomatoes, olive oil, meat balls turned into sliders, shrimp, stewing meat and steaks.

I took these pictures with my phone.  To make matters worse my camera broke on my B day and could not take pictures of the finished product because my battery died.  As you can tell, I was having a wonderful time…not!

The little girl next door brought over this as she was singing Happy Birthday…so sweet.

Off I go to the pool as the sun is out…to be continued…

  1. That pincho looks worth of any decent roadside stand! Hurricane season definitely forces us to play “Iron Chef” with all the random ingredients in the refrigerator. I look forward to the rest of your trip’s recap and will definitely try to meet with Joan when she comes to the island in a few weeks. Saludos!

I hope you’re like me and celebrate all week. What a perfect place to celebrate your birthday. Not even Irene could take that away.

  3. Joan Nova says:

Well, this is a lot different that meal we had planned for your birthday…for sure! Sorry I couldn’t make it there to celebrate with you.

  4. Keep celebrating till you get it right. Sorry about the camera and the trip though. 😦
    Happy belated birthday!

    Saludos,
    Cristina.

I’m sorry your birthday trip didn’t turn out as planned. 😦 Nonetheless, it looks as though you made the best of a difficult situation. Happy belated birthday! Besos desde Necochea.

  7. Happy Birthday dear and I’m glad you managed to celebrate despite the storm. Have fun and the photos look great – phones are becoming the new musthave tool for bloggers. LOL

Don’t you just want to strangle someone when the camera breaks? Mine is due to go in the shop soon, and very much dreading it. Lovely dishes, and nice guest post on Lazaros blog!
