I hosted a celebration for a good friend at home with members of my family and the birthday guest. Family, friends, a good meal, wine and laughter. You cannot ask for more.
MENU
Sliced cucumbers with spicy crème fraiche and smoked salmon
Clams with Chorizo
2 lb. each Grilled lobster
Garlicky Sautéed Broccoli Rabe
Buttery corn on the Cobb
and
Chocolate, chocolate decadent cake
I had a hard time with the 8 lobsters…a few fell on the floor and I was screeching as I picked them up and then one tried to get out of the pot…you had to be there.
I was told that the most humane way was to put them in boiling water and then after a few minutes take them out and prepare them. Slice them open, butter and season them with salt/ pepper then grill for about 15 minutes.
My friends, next time I go to a seafood restaurant.
BUEN PROVECHO AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY DELMAR!
Haha! I can just imagine you and those frisky lobsters! I’ve heard if you put them in the freezer for a short time, that is a humane way to prepare them. I LOVE clams and chorizo! Looks and sounds like a great dinner and great fun!
Love love love this post. And can totally feel your trauma with the lobsters.
Miss you xxx
Now that’s a dinner party I’m sorry I missed. Wonderful menu! Happy Birthday Delmar!
Wow, what a great looking spread! My mouth was watering just looking at the pics! You are so right about a quick submerg in hot boiling water prior to grilling. The trick is to put them in head first into the boiling water. (The water must be at a full rapid boil and I use a seafood seasoning for added flavor. They die instantly, no crawling out of the deep pot. Also, use BBQ tongs to handle them, this way they can’t snap at you.) Have you posted the clams & chorizos recipe? I would love to try it out.
Wow! !Que banquete! Happy Birthday and may many more celebrations be at your table. I can’t wait to cook with you!
Such a succulent birthday party! It all looks delicious!
